Both CurbedLA and UrbanizeLA have written about this project. The corner near Wilshire and Wilton, where the 24-hour Tom 'n Tom and Shabuya are located are about to be demolished. City plans filed for a 7-story mixed-used building. Tom n' Tom will be coming back as Tom 'n Tom Black, sort of a more sophisticated coffee shop serving single origin beans.
If the renderings are correct, this will be a beautiful looking building. Like much of the development in Koreatown, these will be apartments.
Originally, I was skeptical that this will actually get built. But the other day, as I was taking a bike ride through the neighborhood, I noticed the Tom 'n Tom's fenced off and a banner indicating that the development will be happening.
Per CurbedLA the project located at 3980 Wilshire Boulevard, will bring 228 new residential units to the neighborhood with a combination of studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom apartments. Residents will have amenities such as a second floor pool deck, a common area courtyard, a 1,195-square-foot fitness center, and a 1,330-square-foot roof deck. The development will provide three levels of underground parking, with residential parking for 340 cars and 23 motorcycles in all. A separate bike parking area would provide spaces for 267 bicycles.
Completion date is set for late 2018.
